Classify population composition.

Distribution of population according to demographic characteristics (age, sex, and marital status) and socio-economic characteristics (caste, religion, occupation, etc.) is called population composition.
  • Population composition by age: Population composition by age denotes the structure of a population of a place or country by age. Generally, the population of the age group between 15 to 59 years is known as economically active, whereas the people below 14 years and above 60 years are economically dependent.
  • Population composition by sex: Population classified by gender is called population composition by sex. It can be listed when the population is separately counted as males and females.
  • The age-sex composition of population: Age-sex composition of population denotes the structure of the population of a place or country by age and sex. Sex composition is found when the population is separately counted as males and females. Generally, age composition can be found on the basis of age groups (0-14 years, 15-59 years, above 60 years)

'Terai region is facing population pressure.' Justify.

Terai region is urban region. The soil of the Terai region is very fertile. It is full of facilities and services. Besides the land topography of Terai is very good in comparison to hills and mountain region. Terai is plain with agricultural possibilities. It is rich in infrastructures, facilities, and opportunities.

Despite having less share of land than in hills and mountains, this region has the largest population in comparison to the other two. A lot of them migrate from hills and mountains to terai for health, education and job facilities. Because of this, the Terai region is lacking resources as people are exploiting for their needs and requirements.

The climate has become harsh than before in Terai. There have been a dearth of means, resources, and facilities. Crime rates have gone up in Terai. People have become materialistic and individualistic. This shows that the 'Terai region is facing population pressure.'
