Improve Marks In Exam

Well, first of all, congratulations to all the Exam appearing students. In this article, I am going to tell you about how you can increase your exam performance and improve your marks in exams. I know, marks and grades matter a lot for every student. I also used to search a lot of different sites to get techniques for increasing marks in SEE, +2 or other exams. Securing better scores not only increases the utility of your certificates but also increases the chances of other long-term opportunities like scholarship for higher education, easy job placement, beating the competition and increases your value in your surroundings.

There are various techniques that you can use to increase your rankings and scores in your exams and these techniques are not about cheating during exams but about being wise and careful beforehand and during the exam hour. You can choose to follow all these methods to improve your marks in SEE as well as +2 (HSEB/ NEB), University level exams as well.

a. Handwriting: Handwriting matters a lot to improve your marks in exams. I am not stating that you must make your handwriting look extremely good but it must be clear enough to be understood by the examiner. The one who checks your writings should feel no pressure and stress to mark your words and characters. Once your handwriting seems unclear, the examiner will choose to skip what you have written and value your answers just for the length and not for the weight.

It must be clear and easy to skim for any person. In order to improve your handwriting, you can practice right from now. The best way to improve handwriting is to write on without touching the top and bottom margins of a page. Avoid cursive handwriting. As a teacher, I don’t motivate my students to write in cursive as cursive is difficult to understand unless you have gained mastery in cursive writing. Cursive looks great but also looks unclear.

Moreover, it requires a lot more time and effort to master the skill of cursive handwriting. Now, you might be thinking that how you can improve your handwriting in very less time. Well, it all depends upon how honest you are. If you don’t give it a try with commitment, you will never finish it making good. But, if you just write to fill up a page, you will not improve your writing skills.

Just concentrate on handwriting. It will be boring for some hours but eventually, you will understand how it works and you will easily catch up speed in just a few days or weeks.

Another thing is the margins. After an answer ends, you must have the habit of giving margins. Double underline with scale and pencil and close the section of each answer. That makes your copy look clean and distinct.

b. Letter size: The larger the size of your character, the more pages you will cover. If you have tiny handwriting, then you must immediately think and act on making your letter-size larger. Although your handwriting is good looking, your examiner will assume that you have written less.

This is because the same answer is covered in a page by other students whose handwriting is larger while you will cover just half a page. Now, that is a point for the one who checks your copy. Although your answer has weight, it doesn’t have length. In order to make your handwriting size larger, just follow the same tip above.

c. Creativity: Creativity is another factor that helps you to yield more marks during exams. Mathematics and sciences aren’t the subjects to use your own philosophy but this helps you in other theoretical subjects like Social studies, HPE, Nepali, English, Business, and more others. The more creative your answer is, the more interest the examiner takes in your copy and moves his pen to give marks without any greed.

But if your answers seem dull and boring o if you have muffled up all the answers and spat it out on the copy that looks similar to the answers written by the students those whose copies have already been checked, then you might be the target. An examiner is bored and becomes monotonous reading the same thing time and again. If your answers are not similar and you have used your own words, then your copy will be the lucky one as it breaks that boredom.

How can you write in a more creative way? Now, that again needs a lot of practice. Creativity does not come when you have the habit of copying all the answers from your friends’ copies or if your teacher gives all the answers without letting you struggle for creating your own. If you have the practice of writing yourself, doing all the research yourself, searching the internet, news magazines, reading novels and investing your leisure time in productive activities like writing stories, poems, novels, reading newspapers aloud, seeking for words in dictionaries and presenting in front of others, then you will gain the art of creativity gradually.

However, you cannot wish to have this skill immediately once you give a try as it takes months. It is better to start right from today as it might help you after a year or two. If you don’t want to give a try, then you will always remain what you already are.

d. Confidence: A lot many students lose their confidence as soon as they enter the examination hall. They feel nervous and spoil everything although they are able to fill up the answer copy very well. They become anxious and all that they have learned hides behind their subconscious mind.

The best way to overcome this problem is to build confidence. In order to write confidently, you need to arrive prior to the exam time and get used to with the environment of the center. That prepares you for being confident and informs your mind that you are going to write the exam. Don't make haste for anything. After you enter into the examination hall and find your seat, be patient and wait for the question paper and answer copy. Don't be too eager. Before the bell of beginning writing, stay calm and don't start gossiping with whomever you find around.

e. Plan ahead: Don't take everything lightly. Even an eraser will spoil your exam. Pack up all the instruments beforehand. You might want to take all the instruments, geometry box, scale and a bottle with fresh water to refresh you during the exam. And yes, don't forget the admit card. Think like you are going to travel and packing your luggage for a journey that leads you to your future.

f. The exam hall: During the exam, don't try to irritate your invigilator. He/ She might even be irritated when you just tickle your spectacles or you blink a lot or move frequently. These things might be normal for you as you are habituated but not for your invigilator.

Be as polite as you can. Even when you ask for an extra sheet, speak gently. Don't spill the anger of exam or question to the invigilator. Be generous. In case you have done a mistake and the invigilator has a doubt on you or if he/ she is in the mood to expel you or seizes your paper, request them humbly. Don't let yourself out of the class in anger or with a feeling of revenge. It won't affect them but you and only you along with your future. If you can flatter, try it on them.
