Advantages of studying 'Population Composition'

The distribution of the population according to demographic characteristics (age, sex) and socio-economic characteristics (caste, religion, language, occupation) is called the composition of the population. The advantages of studying population composition are; -
  • It tells how the population of a place or country is composed of.
  • It makes easy to understand the portion of the economically active and dependent population.
  • It shows the share of the population of specific castes, religions, languages, and occupations.

What do you mean by population density? Explain any two factors that can cause uneven population density in Nepal.

The average number of people living per square unit of land in a place or a country is called population density.

The land topography, climate, soil, vegetation, etc. affect the density of a certain place. The place having good land topography, suitable climate and fertile soil have more population in comparison to the place lacking these things.

Similarly, Nepal has uneven population density due to the socio-economic causes like industries, trade, transport, communication, health, security, etc. There is less population density in places lacking these facilities and more population in places having these facilities.
